The Florida Keys have always been said to be a great place to escape to … and if you’re lucky, you find the “Otherside”.
The Otherside Boardsports on the sleepy key called Islamorada is Mike and Shauna Walsh’s “otherside”. These two and their little man Cody (“free” years old … he’s obviously wiser than his years) have managed the great escape earlier rather than later in life and are living the dream most of us never dare think of. Surfing and Kiting enthusiasts at heart, they recently got the SUP bug that’s spreading faster than that pig thing.
I met up with them at Founder’s Park which is ideally located just down the street from their jam packed little board shop. Lot’s of mainland escapees (and “Gieco” the Lizard, no shit, that’s it’s real name) showed up to check out Starboard’s SUP deal.
Shauna offers Eco Tours and Mike can teach you just about everything else water related. Their shop is 2 years young and there’s no doubt this couple is growing into a valuable resource on sleepy Islamorada.
