8/29/09 Starboard checks in on the SUP craze happening in Delray Beach
A beautifully clear day was beginning when I rolled into the Delray Beach Water Sports Rental compound in Delray Beach Florida operated by Albert Stillwagon. Having rented Hobie Cats, surfboards, kayaks and bikes for the past eight years he was no stranger to good times, so when SUP came on to his radar he was quick to embrace it. What SUP sells in Delray? Starboard!
Beach ambassador and Mr. Aloha Pat with bombshell wife Flor were quick to help with unloading the Starboard board quiver and setting up the day. Their SUP enthusiasm was awesome and they’ve been spreading the word quite a bit around town. About 40 people turned out to try SUP and quickly became addicted. I should have brought more boards!
The glassy knee high peelers rolling in were perfect first rides and the broad smiles proved everyone to be a star. It’s no wonder SUP’s popularity is growing so fast when the whole family is doing it. No sitter? Put your kid on the board’s nose and go for a paddle!
